The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania provides programming through the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation to recognize Masons who are Boy Scout Leaders for their dedication. Additionally, the R.W. Grand Master will issue a Commendation Letter to all new Eagle Scouts in Pennsylvania.

Many Freemasons nationwide have been of great service to the Boy Scouts of America by supporting the development of Scouting units, serving as volunteers and assisting their Masonic lodges in forming and sponsoring Scout troops. The relationship between individual Masons and Scouts, which has existed since the founding of Scouting in America, has resulted in immeasurable benefits for both groups.

Daniel Carter Beard Scouter Award

At the June 2001 Quarterly Communication of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, the Grand Master approved the creation of the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award.

The award was created with the approval of the Boy Scouts of America as a national Masonic Scouter award, and it will be administered by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania as a service to all other Grand Lodges.

Masonic Eagle Scout Lapel Pins

At the request of R.W. Past Grand Master S. Eugene Herritt, the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation, in cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America’s National Eagle Scout Association, has designed and created a lapel pin which can be worn by ANY Freemason who earned the Eagle Scout Award as a youth. These are available exclusively from the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation because of our careful and faithful administration of the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award since 2002.

Eagle Scout Commendation Letter

Commendation Certificates from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania and a letter signed by the R.W. Grand Master may be requested by a Scouting official, in writing, through the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation. Both the certificate and letter are available for Scouts in Pennsylvania or children or grandchildren of Pennsylvania Masons.
