Incidents of bullying almost always happen in the presence of peers, allowing bullying to thrive when bystanders stay silent. Empowering youth to stand up, speak out and support their peers can change norms and transform school climate. This workshop will equip school and agency staff to help students understand their role in the cycle of bullying and harassment. It will:

  • Examine bullying and harassment among children and adolescents and its impact on both aggressors and targets;
  • Explore the social and psychological dynamics of bullying and bystander behavior;
  • Learn evidence-based approaches to foster empathy;
  • Explore effective, safe and practical interventions and strategies youth can use to intervene and be an upstander in bullying incidents
