Our children and teens move through a digital landscape that is constantly changing while shaping their emotional, social and behavioral health. The Pew Research Center found that nearly half of U.S. teens report being online “almost constantly.” While most teens say they feel more connected to their friends through social media, that constant connectivity can lead to significant challenges with online harassment, cyberbullying and a toll on mental health. In a second study conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2025, 48% of teens said they think social media has a “mostly negative” effect on peers their age, an increase from 32% in 2022.This workshop will:
Examine how the connection between social media use, peer relationships and cyberbullying impacts mental health;
Look at the escalating impact of cyberbullying, from online harassment to organized, targeted aggression;
Identify how social media and cyberbullying contributes to anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, issues with self-worth, comparison culture and emotional overload;
Review strategies and resources that support resilience in youth and help them to navigate their digital world more safely
