We know that at least one in four school-aged children have been exposed to a traumatic event that impacts learning and behavior. Using a trauma-informed approach with youth recognizes how prevalent trauma is and the many ways that trauma can manifest. Working with youth within a trauma-informed framework endeavors to avoid re-traumatization while focusing on strengths and developing resilience. This workshop will:
- Look at trauma, adverse childhood experiences and how experiencing trauma in childhood is different than trauma experienced at other times in life
- Examine the impact of trauma on brain development
- Review how to provide trauma-informed services in schools utilizing resources from the PA Department of Education.
