Is developing empathy an effective strategy in reducing bullying and helping youth create sustaining connections with others? Recent studies indicate the development of empathy can reduce bullying and harassment and create connections among peers. While it is ideal to teach empathy at an early age, there is a lot that can be done to develop empathy in teens. This workshop will:

  • Look at the development of cognitive and affective empathy during the teen years
  • Examine empathy “inside” the brain
  • Address barriers to empathy
  • Discuss the essential steps for building empathy among youth
  • Look at the development of empathy to prevent bullying behavior
  • Review resources in the development of empathy
