The social environments youth navigate are sometimes complex, both in person and online — where sexual harassment and sexual bullying can occur in subtle or overtly harmful ways. Data indicates that nearly half of all students in grades 7 through 12 experience sexual harassment in a single year. There is disparity in the number of youth who share experiences of sexual harassment and incidents of sexual violence compared to the number of official reports filed by schools.
This workshop will define sexual harassment in youth contexts and look at the social, cultural and developmental factors that contribute to this behavior. Participants will explore real‑world scenarios, examine the impact of sexualized behaviors on youth well‑being and learn trauma‑sensitive strategies for intervention. The session emphasizes prevention, communication and building supportive environments where all young people feel respected and empowered.
