SUMMARY:Scrolling Under Stress: Social Media\, Cyberbullying and Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Our children and teens move through a digital landscape that is constantly changing while shaping their emotional\, social and behavioral health. The Pew Research Center found that nearly half of U.S. teens report being online “almost constantly.” While most teens say they feel more connected to their friends through social media\, that constant connectivity can lead to significant challenges with online harassment\, cyberbullying and a toll on mental health. DESCRIPTION:The complex and ever-changing digital world of our youth demands that adults stay informed and engaged to help youth navigate if safely and confidently. Artificial intelligence is transforming the daily lives of children and teens – from their classrooms to their social worlds to their sense of self. AI provides opportunities as well as significant risks for youth\, highlighting the need for school and agency staff to understand both its potential and possible consequences. This workshop will examine the psychological\, developmental and ethical implications of AI for youth\, analyzing AI-generated content\, deepfakes\, online safety and the impact on mental health. DESCRIPTION:Youth use technology and social media for entertainment\, to post commentary and content\, maintain and make new connections and navigate relationships. Sometimes those relationships can be harmful. Cyberbullying\, sexting\, sexual bullying and digital dating violence impact a significant number of our youth\, often with long lasting consequences.
